Dolls and travels

John and I recently vacationed in southern Arizona.  We started in Yuma, where John took me to the Territorial Prison.  The state, and city of Yuma, have done a wonderful job restoring the old prison.  In the photo  on the left John is sitting as they positioned prisoners for their photo.  That way with one photograph they got a full face and profile view.  Clever.

Good Enough Mine in Tombtone

Yuma experience

We next drove to Tucson.  While I went to my Bible study (Bible Study Fellowship), John visited the Historical Society.  We made the mistake of staying near the airport.  Generally not a bad idea, but there are no restaurants near any of the hotels.  Very interesting.

Next was Tombstone.¬† I see I have left out the “s” in Tombstone in the photo caption.¬† The tour of the Good Enough Mine is well worth every cent you pay.¬† Tombstone has a lot of exciting things to see.¬† Do hang around for the confrontation between the Earps, Clanton’s & McLaury’s.¬† Great fun.

We ended our trip in Surprise, Arizona visiting John’s parents.¬† John’s dad’s 97th birthday was Saturday, March 10.¬† Amazing man.¬† Still doing pretty well.

Every-other-year I do a master class I’ve titled Dazzling Daze.¬† It is a 5-day course.¬† I design a new project for the class and Evangelyne was the doll for this year.¬† The class was in January and I came down with Malaria and had to go home half-way through the course.¬† But, those who attended carried on and my amazing husband spent the day afterward taking them to the Road to California Quilt Show, then to the downtown L.A. fabric district.

The doll is in the Steampunk genre, but with some sophistication.  I was inspired by several artists.  Especially Mucha.

Do check out my website for future classes.¬† I’ll be in Cincinnati, Ohio and Frankfort, Indiana in April.¬† May we’ll be taping the next dvd series.¬† June & early July will be fun weeks as our grandchildren from Florida will be visiting, and then friends from New Zealand will be visiting.¬† July I’ll be at the Long Beach Quilt Festival in Long Beach, California.¬† And, then I’ll be teaching in South Carolina, England, and Texas.¬† More details on my website.
